APAT Announces 2025 WCOAP Dates; Seeks International Team Captains

Here is a rewrite of the article while preserving all key information:

The Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) has announced the dates for the highly anticipated 2025 World Championship Of Amateur Poker (WCOAP), affectionately known as “the worlds” within the APAT community. This week-long festival, featuring bankroll-friendly tournaments across various formats and variants, will take place from August 20-25 at the Dusk Till Dawn venue in Nottingham, England.

The WCOAP is a celebrated event among recreational poker players, offering them the opportunity to become world champions in the amateur realm and claim coveted WCOAP bracelets and APAT’s famous medals. While the full schedule is still being finalized, the International Team Event will kick off the festival on the opening day.

The International Team Event is the only confirmed event so far, as APAT is currently seeking team captains from around the world. Up to 23 countries will compete for the team title, with teams comprising four players, including the captain. Players earn points for their team based on their finishing positions in the event. At present, only England, Switzerland, and Wales have captains in place, leaving 20 spots available for interested individuals to become team captains.

Last year’s International Team Event saw 11 teams participate, with the Netherlands emerging victorious with 307 points, followed by Switzerland in second place with 253 points, and Wales securing the bronze medal with 246 points.

Those interested in becoming a team captain can check the available teams on the APAT website or contact Tom Brady via the official APAT Facebook page.

The 2024 WCOAP featured 22 events with affordable buy-ins catering to recreational players. The £210 WCOAP Main Event attracted 518 entries, generating a £90,650 prize pool, with Nick Bowyer claiming the top prize of £15,000. The £350 High Roller event also saw impressive numbers, with Gholamreza Moghaddam taking home £10,780 as the champion.

APAT regular Dave Howard had an exceptional run at the 2024 WCOAP, cashing in the £70 Mini Main Event, finishing fifth in the £70 Triple Stud event, and winning both the £70 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout and the £140 Limit Championship.

In addition to the WCOAP, APAT will be hosting events in Dublin, Ireland, in March as part of the Irish Poker Tour’s St. Patrick’s undefined100K For undefined100 festivities, and in Malta in May during the Malta Poker Festival. APAT has also partnered with Grosvenor Poker this year, with plans for an online poker promotion expected to be announced soon.
