Iconic Hip-Hop Figure Dies During Poker Game; Friend Waka Flocka Flame Reacts

Iconic Hip-Hop Mogul Irv Gotti Dies During Poker Game, Mourned by Rapper Waka Flocka Flame

Irv Gotti, the legendary founder of Murder Inc. Records, passed away at the age of 54 after suffering a stroke during a poker game. The news hit close to home for rapper Waka Flocka Flame, who had participated in the Celebrity Poker Tour (CPT) Game Night V event in Las Vegas just a day earlier.

Gotti, whose real name was Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., was a renowned producer and record executive responsible for discovering and signing artists like Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and DMX. His impact on the hip-hop industry was immense, and his death left a profound mark on the community.

For Waka Flocka Flame, whose real name is Juaquin James Malphurs, Gotti’s passing held personal significance. The 38-year-old rapper, known for hits like “Hard in da Paint,” grew up in New York City before settling in Atlanta. He recalled how his grandmother lived down the street from Murder Inc. headquarters in Manhattan, and he would pass by the iconic label while running errands.

“Irv Gotti and Murder Inc., that’s literally down the street from my grandma’s house,” Waka Flocka Flame told PokerNews. “When I used to take my grandmother’s clothes to the cleaners, I passed where Murder Inc. basically started at.”

Gotti’s love for poker was well-known, and he had amassed $44,106 in Hendon Mob earnings throughout his career. Tragically, his brother revealed that Gotti suffered the fatal stroke while playing poker and eating Chinese food.

Waka Flocka Flame, who finished seventh in the CPT Game Night V event, paid tribute to the late hip-hop mogul, saying, “So R.I.P. to the OG. Shoutout to Irv Gotti. That’s a sad one right there. Protect your health, man. Health is wealth. The only problem you’ll ever have in your life with a billion dollars in your pocket is health. So watch out.”

The rapper’s connection to Gotti extended beyond their shared New York roots. Waka Flocka Flame’s mother, Debra Antney, is a renowned manager who has worked with high-profile artists like Gucci Mane and Nicki Minaj, further immersing him in the hip-hop world that Gotti helped shape.

Despite his recent forays into promoting meme coins and supporting former President Donald Trump, Waka Flocka Flame expressed a newfound interest in pursuing a career in poker after his debut at the PokerGO Studio. With newfound connections and a budding passion for the game, he vowed to return and win the championship belt.

Irv Gotti’s passing serves as a reminder of the impact he had on the music industry and the influence he wielded within the hip-hop community. As Waka Flocka Flame and others mourn his loss, they also celebrate his legacy and the indelible mark he left on the culture.
